At last our cabinets are done, hung up and we have a functioning kitchen. We got everything put away so there are no more boxes in my front room, it is already feeling more like our home.
Here is the kitchen before
And here is the kitchen now
Doesn’t it look pretty? I think it even makes our appliances look better. Maybe I am biased and I know all the hard work that went into it so I forced myself to love it so I never have to do it again. No, we really like it, it warmed up our house and modernized it by 20 years. It was really easy, time consuming, but easy. Here is how I did it.
There was a kit from Home Depot the Rust-oleum cabinet kit. (they also have a counter top kit too that looks awesome). When you buy the kit there are a bunch of different colors to choose from anywhere from white to black, I choose Espresso. There are 4 steps. Step 1 was the deglosser that you scrub on with a green sponge and it got the glossy stuff and dirt off the cabinets, instead of sanding.
Step 2 was painting the cabinets, which you do 2 coats, so I guess you could say there are 5 steps.
Step 3 was the decorative glaze aka stain, that you painted on and then wiped off as much as you wanted. Me and Dustin said this was the step that made them look expensive.
Step 4 was the top coat which is a clear coat that makes it easy to clean and makes them a little bit shiny.
Cabinet kit:$79.00 Paint brushes:$10.00 Blue painters tape:$3.00 Labor: FREE Happy home owners at the end of it all: Priceless.
We are going to get some hardware for them too, eventually, it is dang expensive! We saw some that were $4.00 and $5.00 EACH, so 15 cabinets and 6 drawers later = .. Expensive. Maybe next month.
